Career: Star Marshal

Publisher: Michael Brown“Evenin’, Anse,” Shaughnessy boomed as she entered the saloon. She chose not to see the bartender hastily relocate something beneath the bar.
“Evenin’, Marshal,” he replied, glancing briefly to a group of scruffy men at a nearby table. Shaughnessy made her way over to them. Three of the men saw her as she approached and shifted uneasily in their chairs. But she was after their leader, Rayze Walstin, wanted for armed robbery and murder.
Walstin appeared to ignore her as he took a long swig from a battered tankard. “Evenin’, Marshal,” he offered, mocking the bartender’s greeting without meeting her gaze. “An’ what can I do for ya tonight?”
“You can come with me peacefully and without trouble,” Shaughnessy replied. “Or not. Up to you.”
“Maybe…not!”
He was fast, but Shaughnessy was ready. As he spun, revolver in hand, she grabbed him by the collar with her free hand while knocking his gun off-target with the barrel of her own quickly-drawn sawed-off shotgun before jamming the weapon hard into his ribs.
“Like I said: up to you. Seeing as you chose the hard way, you’d best get moving before I decide to do something about that lifespan of yours.”
Space is full of frontiers, lonely outposts, and isolated areas where law and order have yet to take hold. Sometimes it’s up to bold appointees to go in and apply the law by whatever means necessary. Such people are Star Marshals, trained to deal with lawlessness and crime in whatever manner they see fit until civilization can catch up. Now Cepheus Engine and Original Science Fiction Roleplaying Game players can take on the role of one of these unsung heroes of the starlanes. Career: Star Marshal offers a brief discussion of the Marshals’ role and their enforcement styles, familiar character generation/lifepath tables, an overview of the starship of choice among Marshals, and even a new piece of equipment to deal with the rowdier criminals.
Career: Star Marshal. The long arm of the law just got a lot longer.
