100 Locations for Miskatonic Country

Publisher: Chaosium

This supplement has 100 locations that can be encountered in the areas of Arkham, Kingsport, Innsmouth and Dunwich, and reference the sourcebooks for these areas. Some may be inside cities; others are in the wilderness. They range from buildings, including businesses, homes and abandoned ones, to strange locations and hidden items. Some are almost certainly connected to the Mythos in some way; some are definitely not. Others may or may not be, at the Keeper’s choice.

Here are some sample results:

  • House (A): This is one of the decaying old Georgian homes of Easttown in Arkham, located on Halsey Street. The house is clearly neglected, and for some reason few like to visit it and definitely not live in it, which has contributed to its decline. Unknown to anyone in the neighbourhood, in the cellar of the house are a number of old graves. Half a dozen bodies of people murdered by a former occupant of the house are hidden under the floor, though there is currently no sign of this.
  • House (K): A small but nice Victorian house on French Street in Kingsport’s Downtown, though it is starting to look shabby now. The house isn’t currently occupied, and hasn’t been for some time. Maintenance was being kept up with as attempts were made to sell the home, but as these have consistently fallen through, less and less money has been spent keeping it in shape. For some reason, no-one wants to buy the house; those who look around it, if they do say anything, mention feelings of discomfort and not being welcome whilst inside.
  • Hut (I): This tumbledown building is located on the old railway line to Rowley that was abandoned in the 19th century. It stands some distance to the northwest of Innsmouth, next to the line itself. At one time, the building was probably used for something to do with the railway itself, but after the line was abandoned, it fell into disuse and then disrepair. Part of the roof has collapsed, but inside the building are the remnants of fires and other detritus, suggesting that it is still occasionally used by transients.
  • “Indian” Mound (A): Some distance up the Miskatonic River from Arkham is a mound that resembles the mounds built by one of the cultures known collectively as the “Mound Builders.” This mound is much smaller and has been overlooked so far by any archaeological survey. Though it resembles the other mounds, it is in fact much older, and contains a few items from the lost Hyperborean civilisation; it may be connected to the places found around Dunwich. Nothing of great value can be found within, but it perhaps might provide clues that could lead to other sites.
  • Island (K): This island some distance from Kingsport has no name and barely qualifies as an island. It is, however, always above the water and there’s enough space to land on it. Searching it reveals that at one point it was home to a very small building, though only the foundations remain. What makes the island significant is that it is much easier to enter the Dreamlands from the island than it is in other places, as for some reason the borders between the Dreamlands and the waking world are thin here.
