This collection of 15 images is from The Story of King Arthur and His Knights, a 1903 novel by the American illustrator and writer Howard Pyle. The book contains a compilation of various stories, adapted by Pyle, regarding the legendary King Arthur of Britain and select Knights of the Round Table. Pyle would go on to write other stories concerning King Arthur and his knights, including The Story of the Champions of the Round Table, The Story of Sir Launcelot and His Companions, and The Story of the Grail and the Passing of King Arthur.
Howard Pyle (March 5, 1853 – November 9, 1911) was an American illustrator and author, primarily of books for young people. Some of his more notable students were N. C. Wyeth, Frank Schoonover, Elizabeth Shippen Green, and Arthur E. Becher.
