100 Sights to See in a Steampunk City

Publisher: Azukail GamesSteampunk settings are filled with astonishing discoveries and marvels of modern science. Characters should be able to hear the hiss of steam, and to smell the scent of warming steel just beneath the city’s skin. For those who are looking for unusual sights to really bring home the kind of world the characters are wandering through, from automated street cafes, to bizarre public expos, to dirigible-hosted hangouts for fly boys and sky sailors, then this supplement is just what you’ve been looking for. This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier. Here are some sample results:
Huntington-Locke weapons are seeing a resurgence in popularity throughout the city, both in use by individuals as well as by soldiers of fortune looking for work. These compressed air weapons are just as lethal as more conventional firearms, but rather than an explosion in the barrel they run off of a compressed gas cylinder contained in the weapon’s stock. More shots between reloads, and their significantly smaller cost to reload and operate over longer periods of time, makes them ideal for those engaged in a rough trade.
Newspapers blaze with headlines about the sixth murder in a grisly series of crimes that have been taking place in the dock ward. All the victims have had their heads taken off in a single, clean stroke as if the killings had been done with an executioner’s sword. The heads are always found hanging from the old gate the next morning, though despite stake outs and watchers the killer has never once been seen. Bloody Jack Takes Another! screams the ink, demanding attention and fear from all those who see the news.
A new exhibit known as the Death Garden has finally opened to the public. Those who wander the grounds of the exhibit can view corpses as they decay under different circumstances, the bodies breaking down and returning to the earth. Though it’s been met with a great deal of controversy, called morbid by some and profane by others, the Garden has also become a source of inspiration for poets, painters, musicians and other artists. Those who choose to walk through the Garden on any given day will hear compositions being created, and find perhaps a dozen men and women with easels attempting to capture what they see. Some for art, and others for the furthering of medical science.
Reading benches have recently been installed in the lounges for the train stations and sky ports all around the city. These deep, leather chairs are surrounded by shelves filled with books, and people can freely pick and choose the ones they wish to read. Volumes can even be taken on transports once a passenger boards their car, as long as they’re left in benches at their destinations. This ensures that the libraries are constantly shifting, allowing passengers to choose new books for every trip.
Spiders have become particularly popular as pets recently, and the larger the arachnid the more prestige it seems to bring to the one who keeps it. These spiders are often seen riding on their owners’ shoulders, or in a “web pocket” on the hip made from netting and wire. One reason that size has become a defining factor is that the larger a spider is, the less venomous it tends to be, and the softer its hairs will be on its owner’s skin. Though there are some who prefer small, dangerous spiders for reasons of their own.
