100 Hooks and Rumours for the Impossible Lands

Whether or not any particular rumour is true is up to the GameMaster. They could range from deliberate misinformation being spread to cause trouble to evidence of conspiracies and dangers. High Clockmother Athenth Llanalir is the highest-ranking cleric of Brigh in Alkenstar and she has brought many benefits to Alkenstar but also gained many enemies as a result. Athenth pays these enemies little heed, lacking the ability to understand how irrational people can be, and it’s rumoured that these enemies have started uniting with the aim of bringing Athenth down.
High Shieldmarshal Zakim Adarah was recently promoted to the position after an internal shuffle following the discovery of extensive police corruption. The High Shieldmarshal was found to be unconnected to any of the corruption, though there are rumours he was just better at hiding what he was doing. However, it’s thought that these rumours are originating from corrupt current and former shieldmarshals who are unhappy about the changes.
In theory, Alkenstar’s High Parliament runs the city-state with the Grand Duke or Duchess being the first among equals and a neutral arbiter, with the Parliament preferring an easily manipulated proxy and figurehead. Grand Duchess Trietta Ricia does not fit that mould and it’s rumoured that some of Parliament’s members would prefer she be replaced with someone more cooperative. It’s even said that a few are willing to speed up the process of needing a replacement.
It’s said that the Ustradi River still has a surviving river spirit, despite the toxicity of the waters, and that said spirit, having survived the worst that the Geb-Nex War caused to the waters, still nurses a grudge against those two powers and is ever so carefully attempting to undermine them through proxies.
Lake Ustradi is protected by the Gunworks, which Alkenstar uses to ensure that their water supply is kept safe from the raids of the mutant-giants. It’s rumoured that a second fortress is under consideration for building near the lake, given how important the waters are to Alkenstar.
