100 Encounters for a Fantasy Jungle – Supplement for Zweihander RPG

Publisher: Grim & Perilous StudiosThis is a collection of 100 different encounters that can be placed in a jungle – or, to be more up-to-date, a tropical rainforest. They are to a degree influenced by media portrayals of jungles, but the majority of the encounters should be easy to drop into most appropriate settings. These can be used as background, colour and potential adventure hooks. Some of the encounters are potentially hazardous in one way or another whilst others may prove to be useful. They include things, plants, creatures and sounds. This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier. Here are some sample results:
Geoglyph – Hidden by the trees, a geoglyph can partially be seen carved into the ground as a series of deep trenches. Within the trees, and at ground level, it is almost impossible to determine what the geoglyph forms, but it is clearly not natural (an (Easy +20%) Survival Test to confirm). The geoglyph is a series of interconnected squares, octagons, rectangles, ovals and circles spanning several hundred yards (an (Arduous -30%) Scrutinize Test to determine the shapes from the ground).
Gorge – The jungle suddenly ends in a narrow gorge, with trees growing right up to the edge. Those taking insufficient care can easily blunder into the gorge (running Characters must make a (Challenging -10%) Coordination Test or blunder into the gorge; a (Hard -20%) Coordination Test if this is failed will allow them to grab onto the side, otherwise they will fall to the bottom – see Falling in the Hazards & Healing chapter of the ZWEIHÄNDER: Revised Core Rulebook). A hundred feet below is a rushing river and the jungle resumes on the other side of the gorge, which is about 20′ away.
Gourds – Vines growing up a nearby tree are festooned with a number of gourds. These would normally be good to eat, but the gourds have been invaded by a species of insect, and cutting into the gourds results in small, biting insects going everywhere. (Treat the insects as a Swarm.)
Grave – A broken sword stuck into the ground appears to denote what was once a grave, although jungle scavengers have dug up the remains and scattered them.
Heads – Stacked in a large pile are several dozen severed heads. The heads appear to be of natives, and the bodies are missing.
